Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate my course average?

Multiply each grade by its weight and add them up. With a 40% midterm and a 60% final: average = midterm × 0.40 + final × 0.60. A midterm of 62 and a final of 75 give 62 × 0.40 + 75 × 0.60 = 69.8. If there is an assignment, add its weighted grade too; the weights must add up to 100%.

What do I need on my final to pass?

Final needed = (target average − midterm × midterm weight) ÷ final weight. With a midterm of 55 worth 40% and a passing average of 50: (50 − 22) ÷ 0.60 = 46.7, so you need at least 47 on the final. Grade Calculator works this out for every letter grade at once.

How is GPA calculated?

Multiply the grade points of each course (A = 4.0, B = 3.0 …) by its credits, add them up and divide by the total credits. The result is your grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

Are letter-grade ranges the same everywhere?

No. The ranges and grade points differ between countries, universities and even courses. In the app you can edit the grading scale to match yours exactly.

What is a minimum final grade?

Some schools fail you if your final exam grade is below a certain mark (for example 30, 45 or 50), even when your average is high enough. Enter the minimum and the required final grade takes it into account.

Is Grade Calculator free?

Yes. The app is free on the App Store with no ads, no subscription and no in-app purchases. The calculators on this site are free too.

Where are my grades stored?

Only on your own device. You do not need an account and nothing is sent to a server. Grades you type into the web calculators never leave your browser.

Is there an Android version?

The Android version is coming soon to Google Play. Right now the app is available for iPhone and iPad (iOS 17.6 or later) on the App Store.
